In 1994, after years of hard work and diligence, CASL developed a 91-unit senior housing facility in Chinatown. The need for housing was so great that applicants lined up around the block hoping to make CASL Senior Housing their new home. The need continues to this day as CASL Senior Housing maintains a waiting list of hundreds of hopeful seniors wanting to be a part of the vibrant community.
For over 40 years, Bernie Wong, with the support of her late husband Albert, has been a leader in the greater Chicago Chinese community. She served as the first staff member, guiding CASL from a small volunteer-run agency to becoming one of the most comprehensive social service agencies in the Midwest. This re-dedication of the CASL Senior Housing building honors Albert and Bernie’s longstanding commitment to improving the lives of Chinese Americans.
