Child Development Center

Chinese cultural immersion and retention…multicultural modern American education!

Our Mission

The Chinese American Service League (CASL) Child Development Center (CDC) supports children in becoming capable, confident, competent, and responsible individuals who will succeed in this global society.

History and Accreditation

Established in 1985, the CASL Child Development Center is one of the pioneer preschool programs in Chicago’s Chinatown. We are accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and licensed by the State of Illinois Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS). We have also been awarded the ExceleRate Illinois Gold Circle of Quality.

Passion for Learning

Children learn in an exciting environment. CDC uses a research-based curriculum, the Creative Curriculum, which includes daily educational experiences in early language, literacy, math and science as well as art, music and physical activities.

Language and Culture

Children participate in our learning community, which supports Chinese and Western cultural heritages and family diversity. Children spend mornings in English as the language of instruction and afternoons in Chinese as the language of instruction.

Assessment

Teachers assess children’s progress a minimum of three times a year and feedback is exchanged at bi-annual Parent-Teacher Conferences.

Staffing and Ratio

Lead teachers in the 3 to 5-year-old rooms have Masters Degrees in Early Childhood Education and years of experience. They also have a Professional Educational License with Early Childhood Endorsement required by Illinois State Board of Education. All of our teachers are degreed in Early Childhood Education. Our child-teacher ratio in the 3 to 5-year-old classrooms is 10:1, and the ratio is 6:1 in our two-year-old classrooms.

Family Support

Parents can access services housed in a comprehensive social service agency (CASL).  Reasonable accommodations are made to transport families to needed services (educational, medical). Our Family Specialist helps develop families’ unique strength to empower their lives through specifically designed parent engagement activities.

Health Consciousness

We offer nutritious breakfast, lunch and snack freshly prepared in our on-site kitchen. We also have a Registered Nurse on the premises. Special needs children are welcome!

Continuity of Learning Environment

Child Development and Education Services collectively serves children from Birth to 12 Years. The Family Learning & Resource Center is a family support program where parents and children learn together. The School Age Center is an after-school program for educational, recreational, and cultural advancement.

Fees

We welcome all families—both private tuition and government eligible families. Eligibility for Preschool For All, Head Start, and Child Care funding will be determined upon application.
