Announcing the appointment of Paul Luu as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Chinese American Service League.
The Chinese American Service League is pleased to announce the appointment of Paul Luu as its new Chief Executive Officer, beginning November 1st, 2017. Mr. Luu was unanimously selected by the Board of Directors as part of CASL’s next phase of leadership. In his role as CEO, he will focus on external operations of the organization, including strategic relationships, fundraising, and a sustainable future for CASL.
Mr. Luu has over 20 years of non-profit experience and is a strong voice in Chicago’s immigrant community as well as Chicago’s philanthropic circles. He has been with the Vietnamese Association of Illinois since 2013. As their CEO, he doubled the budget, further developed board and staff leadership, and increased benefits for staff. Prior to that, Mr. Luu served in several leadership roles within the Boys and Girls Club of Chicago. Mr. Luu currently serves on State Comptroller Susana Mendoza’s Asian American Advisory Council, UIC Chancellor’s Asian American Affairs Council, and Secretary of State Jesse White’s Asian Advisory Council. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Illinois State University, and he lives in Chicago with his wife and two children.
Mr. Luu was born in Vietnam and immigrated to the United States as a child. He understands the struggles immigrants face—particularly those from eastern Asia. Of both Chinese and Vietnamese decent, Mr. Luu is wholly an immigrant American like most of CASL’s staff and clients.
“The decision to appoint Paul as CASL’s new CEO was made unanimously by our Board of Directors. His experience as a dynamic, innovative leader in the Asian community is exactly what our organization needs. We know that—working in tandem with our new COO—Paul will take CASL to a whole new level of success and ensure a vibrant, sustainable future for both the organization and our community.”
—Jim Mark Jr, Chairman of the Board
“Paul has over twenty years of non-profit experience serving people of all races, ethnicities, religions, lifestyles, and needs—precisely the passion and diversity that is CASL’s mission. He is well versed in the needs of many walks of life, and eager to fulfill the needs of many more—particularly those of his own Chinese heritage. I am very pleased with his appointment, and excited to see what the future holds for CASL!”
