35th Anniversary Taste of Asia
Zhou B Art Center | 1029 West 35th Street in Chicago, IL 60609
Friday December 5th, 2014 | 5:30 pm – 10:00 pm
The Chinese American Service League’s (CASL) 35th Anniversary year entered its concluding month within the chic, familiar vibe of the Zhou B Art Center. Celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2014, the Zhou B Art Center facilitates the exchange of contemporary art between Chicago and the international art community, promoting the convergence of Eastern and Western art forms in the United States. This highly anticipated event was attended by nearly 500 distinguished guests.
Also to be expected of CASL’s major events, there was a Silent Auction of elegant item packages, and a Raffle Drawing featuring prizes from Southwest Airlines (tickets), Best Buy (16 GB iPad Mini) and MingHin Cuisine ($500 in certificates). About twenty Chicago-area Asian restaurants served guests the finest sampling of their menus. Entertainment included traditional dance performances by CASL children, and Indian Bollywood dance performed by A.NU.Bhav of Northwestern University.
Emcees were Judy Hsu of ABC-7 and Nancy Loo of WGN-TV. Nesita Kwan of NBC-5 and Linda Yu of ABC-7 made special appearances.

CASL is proud to announce a new collaboration between our Elderly Services Department and the Alzheimer’s Association, Greater Illinois Chapter (GIC). 13% of CASL’s clients currently suffer from Alzheimer’s disease, and this collaboration will help them—and the larger Chinatown community—receive the care and attention they need to live full and comfortable lives in the wake of this debilitating illness. CASL is committed to improving the lives of Chinese older adults, and partnership with the Alzheimer’s Association will draw upon the unique knowledge of both organizations to achieve common goals. With emphasis on training, support and activation, key initiatives of this collaboration include:
1. Joint proposals to potential funders for support of the collaborative efforts
2. Co-development of culturally-appropriate Alzheimer’s training for CASL’s staff and clients
3. Establishment of support groups within the Chinese community at CASL
4. Identification and/or creation of materials in Chinese language
5. Establishment of a Alzheimer’s resource center at CASL
6. Culturally-sensitive training for GIC staff to learn how to engage with the Chinese community
In celebration of this collaboration, CASL and the Alzheimer’s Association held a joint press conference on November 24th, in CASL’s Grand Hall, with a special performance by our own Pine Tree Council Choir.
After Black Friday and Cyber Monday comes #GivingTuesday, and the Illinois Donors Forum is challenging non-profit agencies to raise as much money as they can on this special day—$12 million raised by Illinois nonprofits from 100,000 individual donors, to be exact! Help keep this tradition of generosity going! Donate to CASL on Tuesday Dec. 2nd, and provide vital support our clients need to flourish and contribute to the Chicago community.
