Spring Festival Spring showers couldn't keep high spirited guests away from CASL's inaugural Spring Festival on March 13!. The fundraiser was held at the Zhou B Center located in the Bridgeport neighborhood. Soft pink lighting and billory white satin fabric draped the walls, transforming the venue. Huge vases filled with branches of blooming cherry blossoms and origami cranes in various hues of pink swung gently from above creating the perfect atmosphere for a wonderful night! The Spirit Gallery, redesigned to evoke a club lounge feel with a cool musical vibe, was the setting for the VIP room. Honorary chairs, the internationally acclaimed artists, the Zhou Brothers, and Co-Chairs Margaret O'Connor and Michael Zhou greeted guests at the VIP reception which kicked off the event at 6:30. Guests mingled, enjoyed pink Veev Blossom-tinis, Tsingtao beer, and an open bar while they feasted on a sumptuous array of tasty morsels from Tony Hu, Jackie Shen, and Sugarplum, all while eying the artwork throughout the gallery. Master calligrapher Gilbert Lun created bookmarks representing each of the guests names in Chinese characters while the two Lau sisters, alumni of CASL's cultural retention classes, performed an interpretive dance welcoming the spring and the spring breeze.
Partygoers, whose numbers topped 300, also made their way upstairs to the second floor for the highly anticipated fashion show, produced by event sponsor Akira. The show kicked off with the Lau sisters performing a ribbon dance, after which, the lights dimmed and for the next twenty minutes a parade of models wearing the latest in uber-chic spring fashions worked the runway. As the fashion show ended guests joined on the stage floor for dancing, while others returned downstairs to enjoy the lounge vibe of the Spirit Gallery.
CASL extends its sincere appreciation and thanks to Giant Panda sponsors, The Richard H. Dreihaus Charitable Lead Trust and Art and Elaine Wong, and event sponsors, Akira Chicago, MarCon Communications and the Zhou B Center.
