AmericaSpeaks: Our Budget, Our Economy Over the past weeks, CASL has been helping to organize a National Town Meeting called AmericaSpeaks: Our Budget, Our Economy that will engage the American public in an unprecedented national discussion about our federal budget. As national leaders work to jumpstart our economy, significant challenges threaten the long-term vitality of the United States – chief among them, a growing federal deficit that is projected to increase at an unsustainable rate. AmericaSpeaks: Our Budget, Our Economy will bring Americans together in cities across the country – including Chicago – on the same day, June 26. All participants from California to Maine will be connected live via satellite video, webcast and interactive technologies as they learn about the challenges facing our nation, explore the issues and weigh the trade offs. After the meeting, AmericaSpeaks will deliver to political leaders in Washington a clear message about the shared priorities of a large, demographically representative group of Americans. CASL is very excited about AmericaSpeaks: Our Budget, Our Economy hosting an event here in Chicago, and we invite you to participate in this historic dialogue! Charter One Continues Lead Support of CASL’s Housing Initiative!CASL is proud to announce that the Charter One Foundation has renewed its support of CASL’s Housing Initiative! As the lead corporate supporter since the program’s inception in 2006, Charter One has partnered with CASL to develop this program into the largest and most successful program of its kind serving the needs of Chinese speaking individuals. The CASL Housing Initiative serves to educate and counsel low and moderate income families on financial literacy and housing-related issues. It strives daily to meet the needs of the expanding community and assists prospective home-buyers in realizing the “American Dream.” To accomplish this mission, CASL has teamed up with Charter One and its other partners to deliver monthly seminars on financial literary and money management at our agency headquarters. Representatives from Charter One often join us to lend their personal experience and advice on money matters at these seminars. The program also offers workshops for first-time home buyers, and one-one-counseling on housing foreclosure, rental and financial matters by a certified bilingual housing counselor. For more information on what the housing center can do for you, contact Ben Lau at 312-791-0418. Client Stories
“I cannot imagine what a first-time immigrant mom like me could do when she knows nothing about the schools, healthcare and other basic systems of the country if it was not with the help of a good support network. For this, I thank CASL. They enabled me to transform from a helpless mother to someone who can educate other parents in return. ”
